Ishmael Ensemble - Songs For Knotty “Special Edition” CD
Ishmael Ensemble's debut release on Banoffee Pies Records “Songs For Knotty” gets the special edition treatment featuring 3 new live tracks recorded in June 2017 by Balamii Radio & Champagne Funk for their “Body of Work” video series. The short film focuses on inspirations & influences behind the record and includes a full length interview with band leader Pete Cunningham.
These new recordings give the listener a taste of how the project has evolved from Cunningham’s home studio experiments into a 6 piece live band with Holly Wellington returning to vocal duty on the beautifully crafted epic “Hafiz" and the band taking previous releases “Kito’s Theme” & “Song For Knotty” to dizzying new heights of psych-out jazz.

My god, what an absolutely incredible Suite. I'll admit, I've struggled to get into Pharoah Sanders due to diving headfirst into some of his most challenging catalogue and that never worked. This is the perfect place to restart. Floating Points is new for me and I can honestly say I've never heard synthesizer music this lush and organic before. the LSO is just perfect. This is one of those albums that any serious music fan needs in their life. The perfect swan song for the great Pharaoh! 5/5 ClassyMusicSnob
